Can I use a 12VDC alternator to charge the batteries 3 12VDC in series feeding an electric motor at the same time?
No! you can not. You need to connect the batteries in parallel to the load. But then you will not be able to run the electric motor 36v. You can convert 12VDC to approx. 8.5VAC through simple inverter circuit. And while using transformer can be increased to 36VAC. Then you can convert 36VAC to 36VDC can be used to charge the three batteries in series and engine operation.
